Blog Tour and Review: Shattered by Love by C.A Harms

Shattered by Love
Scarred by Love Series Book #3

Author: C.A. Harms
Publisher: Limitless Publishing

**Mature Content Warning** Recommended for ages 17+ due to language and sexual content.

He was the one.

The man she wanted with all her heart.

But it took years before Bree realized she deserved more then what Max was willing to give.

Max, was cocky and arrogant…

Too strong-headed to admit that he felt more for Bree than just lust.

Then it happened…

One devastating night, and it shook Max to his very core.

That’s when he began to see life in whole new way.

Now he’s left to sort through the mess that he’s created.

Will he be able to rise above it all and make amends with those he needs the most?

Or will the damage be irreversible and leave him longing for what could have been?

I couldn’t wait to read Shattered by Love. This is Max’s story. If you have read the series from the beginning than you know that Max’s book is most anticipated. Max is that tough character who shies away from love. He is the protector of his family and as a firefighter, he is the protector of the community. His relationship with Bree is complicated. He cares for her but cannot make the commitment that he needs too. Once he feels that he will lose her, he takes the chance.
I love Max’s character. You look at a tough guy and never think that he has this tender, emotional side. Bree brings it out of him. His vulnerability makes you love max more.
Harms is a fantastic writer. She knows how to create an emotional romantic story. I enjoy reading her books and I look forward to the next one.
This series is a definite recommend. I suggest reading the series from the beginning to understand the depth of each character.

She’s not what he wanted… but she is what he needs.
Harper Kirkpatrick is not what Cameron Bennett expects for the bachelor party in his Savannah mansion. She’s desperate when he sends her home. Jobs are scarce and eviction looms. Former boyfriend Billy took off for California and she’s too proud to head home to Chicago. Although Cameron may not go for her cheerleader kicks, he does admire Harper’s spunk. When she answers his ad for a nanny, she’s horrified to find herself back at his mansion. But she can’t turn down the generous salary or Bella, the toddler with troubled eyes. Youngest in the Kirkpatrick clan, Harper’s not an expert on kids. Neither is the young widower. Her head-strong personality soon puts her at odds with Cameron and his TV personality girlfriend, Kimmy Carrington. When she stands in for Kimmy at a Savannah gala, Harper and Cameron spark a fire that nearly burns down the dance floor. Never has the wrong man felt so right. Never has a boy from the south worked so hard to rev up the charm. Will the Windy City girl be able to put the heart back in his home? Can he convince her that his southern comfort has staying power?

Recommended for ages eighteen and over due to strong language, sexual situations, and graphic violence.
untitled

Heart of Marley is the journey of two siblings. It is full of love, friendship and tragedy. Leigh is able to show the darker, unseen side after effects of child abuse and sexual abuse. I feel for Marley and Cameron. The things that they had to go through. Leigh writes the story that shows what is going through the minds of both kids. How they feel about everything.
The issue of therapy and mental health stigma is a true one. I love the fact that the author brings that into the story. The author does a great job of bringing this to forefront and showing that it does affect those involved.
What made me mad was the Aunt and Uncle. How they hide behind their religion and act as if it is a cure all. It’s not. Sometimes you have to think beyond your comfort zone to seek help.
Leigh did a good job on creating a dynamic between characters. She was able to interchange POV and allow you to see both Marley and Cameron’s side.
This book is not for everyone. There are sensitive themes talked about in the book. I feel that it is one that can bring understanding to those on the outside watching a friend or loved one struggle with the effects of abuse.
My overall thoughts are that the author wrote a tragically beautiful emotional story about these two great characters. I recommend this a must read for ages 18+.

I had gotten used to things over the years. Marley’s emotions always took you on a wild roller coaster ride, the ebb and flow often unexpected and sometimes tumultuous. But during those moments that things flattened out, and the ups and downs of her life were on an even keel, even if for just an instant, those were the times that I treasured. I wouldn’t trade those rare memories for anything in the world. Those were the times that I saw the real Marley…the girl that forced me to play Barbie’s with her, the girl that convinced me the mud pie she made for me was really chocolate. The way her eyes brimmed with enthusiasm and mischief at the same time, you couldn’t help but believe her, knowing that she would squeal with excitement and delight when you pretended to take a bite of her ‘chocolate’ pie. “Remember the tree house?” she asked, bringing me back from my own memories. I could hear the lump in her throat. “How could I forget? You hounded Dad for months to build you one.” “Remember going out there after he died, but before Mama lost the house?” I nodded, finding Marley’s hand and grabbing it. “Yeah, I do.” I felt her body tremble beside me as big, fat rain drops began to fall. “I think it would have been the best tree house on the block.” “The way Dad doted on you, it would have been a tree mansion by the time he was done with it.” Losing my father was hard enough when I was just eight, but having to be faced with the constant reminders of his life made it even more difficult. The worst was looking out our back window at a tree that he had begun to build a house in for Marley and me. The night that Mama had explained to us that Dad had gone to heaven and wouldn’t be coming back, I remember glancing out there and seeing Marley sitting on the lone wood plank that he had set up as the foundation of the tree house. Nearly every night that we lived in that house, we would go out there and simply lay down and look at the stars. “This reminds me of that,” I said softly. “Of those nights in the tree house.” The sound of thunder boomed around us and we remained on that roof, not caring that we were both drenched from the late summer downpour cloaking the town. “Me, too,” Marley said. “I think that’s why I like coming out here so much. It reminds me of ‘before’. It makes me feel closer to Dad. I always swore I could hear him talking to me in that tree house and, some nights when I’m out here, I can still hear him.” “What does he say?” She turned to face me and almost broke into tears. “That he’s proud of you. That he can’t believe how much of him he sees in you. That he’s happy you don’t let anyone or anything influence your decisions. That he’s thankful you’ve never abandoned me.
