5 Star Review for Controlled Burn by Lani Lynn Vale

Title: Controlled Burn
Series: Kilgore Fire #4
Author: Lani Lynn Vale
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: October 5, 2016 Cover Model: Shane Williams Photographer: Furious Fotog
July Dupree and Dean ‘PD’ Hargrove fell head over heels in love. When PD comes home to tell July the good news about joining the SWAT team as a tactical medic, everything changes.
July can’t fathom why PD would want to be a cop in this day and age. Wasn’t it enough that he already had a dangerous job with the fire department? Now he has to add another, even more dangerous, job to the equation? With so many cruel people in the world who make a sport out of hurting cops just because of the badge they wear, she has to make him understand. But when he refuses to listen to her reasoning, she feels she has no other choice but to issue an ultimatum: her or the SWAT team.
Dean doesn’t like ultimatums. He’s furious with July for putting him in the awful position of having to choose between a dream and her.
July never believes for a second that he’d choose the SWAT team over her, but she is wrong.
A year later, they’re both still in love with each other, but neither one is willing to budge regardless of their feelings.
July’s feelings for Dean haven’t changed, in fact her love for him has only grown. But seeing him living his life seemingly unaffected by the loss of what they had breaks her heart over and over each time she sees him.
Dean has a good poker face, though. He’s just going through the motions of his life until finally, the smoldering embers of his feelings erupt into a full-on blaze of emotion, burning through everything but his love for July. When the smoke clears, Dean wants to know if they can reignite the fire of their love or is he destined to live his life in a constant state of controlled burn?

I love this book because July's character is the most stubborn female character I have read about but she makes the book extremely entertaining. She battles back and forth with Dean trying to prove she doesn't need him but ends up showing him that she does need him in her life, just like he needs her.
Like in all of Vale's books, the couple don't get their HEA too easily. In the case of Dean and July, they had a major hardship ahead of them. Dean struggles to save July and it leads to a very emotional climax.
It's a great second chance romance about two people who a so meant to be. It's a fantastic book that showcases Vale's talent as a romance writer. I definite must read.

Review of Broken by Alexis Noelle

Broken (Deathstalkers MC Novel)
Author: Alexis Noelle
Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: October 3, 2016
Cover Design: Cover Me Darling
This is what I signed up for.
I knew it from the start.
I'm the newest prospect for the Deathstalkers MC Club.
I'll do whatever they ask--whenever they want it done.
No questions.
I'll take their bullshit and follow orders, like nobody's business.
Cuz once I get that patch, that label,
I'm in.
But when one of the old ladies takes in a stray,
I can't help but feel the pull toward her.
Izzy makes me question everything.
But I can't.
I have to sit back and pray like Hell that someone else,
One of these bastards doesn't claim her for himself.
If he does, I have to let her go,
Let her walk away,
Into his arms,
His bed.
And I can't do that.
Deathstalker prospect or not,
I know what I want,
And I want her.

I love Noelle's Deathstalkers MC series. It's raw and emotional. After reading the previous book in the series, I couldn't wait to see how the characters were handling things.
In Broken, we get the story of Max and Izzy. With Izzy's background I was expecting a highly intense and emotional story. It ended up not feeling that way. It seemed kind of detached and predictable. I knew how Izzy's mystery was going to end and it didn't have the same bang that the previous books had. I wanted so much more but it wasn't there.
Max was a great character. He was unexpected. A privileged guy living in an MC world. He came off as very genuine and likeable.

The book as a whole was not bad. It did have some entertaining points. I'm still in love with the series and hope to read more of these books in the future.
