Blurb:

J.R. Ward's # 1 New York Times bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood continues as a royal bloodline is compromised by a grave threat to the throne.

Long live the King…

After turning his back on the throne for centuries, Wrath, son of Wrath, finally assumed his father’s mantle--with the help of his beloved mate. But the crown sets heavily on his head. As the war with the Lessening Society rages on, and the threat from the Band of Bastards truly hits home, he is forced to make choices that put everything--and everyone--at risk.

Beth Randall thought she knew what she was getting into when she mated the last pure blooded vampire on the planet: An easy ride was not it. But when she decides she wants a child, she’s unprepared for Wrath’s response--or the distance it creates between them.

The question is, will true love win out... or tortured legacy take over?

My Review:

I am a huge fan of BDB. I have enjoyed the books since Dark Lover. Mrs Ward's books have changed and matured as each one is released. Since the beginning, you can tell that there is a difference in the writing of the books. It is necessary because the characters mature also.

In The King, we get what we have all been waiting on, closure to Wrath and Beth's story. Sure those two found love and got "married" but there was always something missing. We get that here. Beth wants a child but Wrath is dead set against it. I understand his point of view. He fears that any child may become blind and will have to deal with the additional burdens he has as King. The fear that he has is common for most people. I appreciate that the author gives us a look at his vulnerable side.

I loved this book and Mrs Ward did not disappoint. I look forward to future BDB books. I definitely recommend this book, ages 18 and older. :-)
