Blake Lexington has crushed on Cori since the day she started working for him. He knows a bit about her past, living with the Angels Warriors, and he doesn’t care. He refuses to make a move, thinking it will scare off his shy assistant. For years, he’s thought she would never be attracted to someone like him. Finally realizing that he needs to take action, her reaction surprises him. Cori believes he sees her as a slut and wants to use her. Secrets from the past will be revealed, causing everything to unravel. Will real love bring them together, or is Cori too damaged to give true love a chance?

~My Review~

Twisted Up In You is a story that is set in the world of the Angels Warriors series but in my opinion it stands alone. This book was a little more emotionally charged than other books by this author.  Martens makes you feel the character's emotions. The main character Corinne grew up in an abusive foster home and had to deal with things that no child should ever deal with. Corinne is one character you feel for. She puts up a wall but slowly she is collapsing under it. She's run from her past for so long but now she has to deal with it. It's heartbreaking and hard to read as she has to deal with it all again.

I feel that Martens did a wonderful job with Corinne's story. She didn't shy away from how the character should feel. When a lot of authors refuse to write the gritty after effects of abuse, Martens shows how hard it can be on you years later.

I loved the relationship between Blake and Corinne. They are great together even though they had a rough start. Blake pushes Corinne and gets through to her when others can't. He is similar to her in so many ways and I think that it helps him relate to her.

I was happy to read updates about the Angels Warriors characters throughout the book. I enjoyed reading about them in their own books and it was great to find out about them.

I feel that Martens did a wonderful job with this book. She did Corinne and Blake's story justice. Most readers may not like Corinne's lifestyle but you have to remember that everyone deals with things differently. I feel that there is more to the character and the author does show that. I recommend this as a must read but note that most readers are not comfortable with the topic of abuse. This book isn't for everyone.

My Rating
5 out of 5 Stars
