Title: Flash Point
Series: Kilgore Fire Series #2
Author: Lani Lynn Vale
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Masen Crisfield fell in love with Booth Jones when she was sixteen years old. Booth was the love of her life. The rock she needed to get her through the day. Then she rips his heart out while he’s deployed, leaving him wondering just what he’d done to warrant something so severe as a breakup that neither of them wanted.
Stubbornness is their middle name, and ten long years pass before either one of them try to breach the gap.
Circumstances force Booth to come home, and within an hour of him being back in his hometown, there she is. Right back in the forefront of his mind where he knows she shouldn’t be.
The day he starts his first civilian job at Kilgore Fire Department, his worst fear of seeing Masen is realized. And not only does he see her, but he sees her with another man. A fellow firefighter that he has to trust with his life.
It soon becomes apparent that they are both still just as much in love with each other now as they were the moment they met. But there’s a problem. Booth’s married, and Masen’s in a committed relationship.
They fight the pull with everything they have, but they’re both about to learn the true meaning of flash point as the two of their lives crash together. Their love consuming everything in its path.
Like all of Vale's books, there is some suspense. It doesn't lack any of the "edge of your seat" feeling that all of her books have. I like how Vale doesn't try to force the suspense part of the story and doesn't feel the need to rush it. The storyline is there but it doesn't overshadow the romance aspect of the book.
Flash Point is a second chance romance. The main characters Masen and Booth were in love as teenagers. Masen experienced a difficult lose that caused her to push Booth away. Booth is stuck overseas fighting for his country and isn't able to fight for her. Time hasn't healed the wounds that sour words left. They still love each other and can't move on.
They meet again years later and find themselves entangled in each other. Masen is hoping for something more but wakes up alone. Years pass once more before they meet again. Masen is trying to move on with Boone but in her heart she knows he's not Booth. She wants Booth. Fatboy's accident in the previous book forces Booth to come home. He has decided to help out the fire station by joining the team. His brother being down has hindered the team.
When Masen and Booth see each other across the room, it's as if the hurt and pain don't exist for a brief moment. Things come crashing down when Masen believes he has moved on. Devastated, she leaves. Fate has other plans because they are thrown together again. This time they get some of the issues off their chest. Booth isn't really ready because he pushes her away. They finally realize that they belong to each other. They drop the issues that kept them apart and start to live in the moment. Their love story is so intense and beautiful.

Booth and Masen are two great characters that prove love doesn't die. Their connection is just as strong, if not stronger, now as it was years prior. I loved reading their story. Books like this prove why Vale is a force in the romance genre.
