"Several emotional topics -- such as drug addiction, abandonment, infertility and unexpectedly becoming a parent -- are easily woven together without making the story feel crowded or overdone. Foster writes exceptional characters that keep readers thinking long after the book is finished... The dynamic members of the Whiskey family are the foundation that holds the group together and they are exactly the reason we're taught not to judge. Let's hope we hear more from all of them!" RT Book Reviews

"Sexy and Heartbreaking....I simply adored this beautifully written romance." Tasty Book PR

Tru Blue is an emotional story about one man's fight to save his family. Truman has experienced a crap deal in life but he has always strived to protect his family. When he finds his siblings living a life that no one ever should, he steps in to save them. Truman is a man that I wish this world had a lot of real versions of. He's protective and caring, qualities that women crave. He is a great character because he is willing to sacrifice himself just to protect the ones he loves.
Gemma is Truman's love interest. She happens upon him one night when he needed help the most. She gives him a hand and instantly a connection is created. She tries to distance herself but how can you stay away from a guy that looks so that caring for his baby siblings? I loved them together, even though it seemed like their relationship was an uphill battle. In the end it was worth it to see these two together.
I enjoyed this book. It was an interesting read that was not only held together by the main characters but the secondary ones too. My only issue is that I felt the ending was too rushed. It was as if the author met her page quota and had to rush the ending. I would have loved more development there. Maybe taking the readers through a better explanation of how everything was "solved". Other than that it was an enjoyable read.

TRUMAN GRITT LOCKED the door to Whiskey Automotive and stepped into the stormy September night. Sheets of rain blurred his vision, instantly drenching his jeans and T-shirt. A slow smile crept across his face as he tipped his chin up, soaking in the shower of freedom. He made his way around the dark building and climbed the wooden stairs to the deck outside his apartment. He could have used the interior door, but after being behind bars for six long years, Truman took advantage of the small pleasures he’d missed out on, like determining his own schedule, deciding when to eat and drink, and standing in the f**king rain if he wanted to. He leaned on the rough wooden railing, ignoring the splinters of wood piercing his tattooed forearms, squinted against the wetness, and scanned the cars in the junkyard they used for parts—and he used to rid himself of frustrations. He rested his leather boot on the metal box where he kept his painting supplies. Truman didn’t have much—his old extended-cab truck, which his friend Bear Whiskey had held on to for him while he was in prison, this apartment, and a solid job, both of which were compliments of the Whiskey family. The only family he had anymore. Emotions he didn’t want to deal with burned in his gut, causing his chest to constrict. He turned to go inside, hoping to outrun thoughts of his own f**ked-up family, whom he’d tried—and failed—to save. His cell phone rang with his brother’s ringtone, “A Beautiful Lie” by 30 Seconds to Mars. “F**k,” he muttered, debating letting the call go to voicemail, but six months of silence from his brother was a long time. Rain pelleted his back as he pressed his palm to the door to steady himself. The ringing stopped, and he blew out a breath he hadn’t realized he’d trapped inside. The phone rang again, and he froze. He’d just freed himself from the dredges of hell that he’d been thrown into in an effort to save his brother. He didn’t need to get wrapped up in whatever mess the drug-addicted fool had gotten himself into. The call went to voicemail, and Truman eyed the metal box containing his painting supplies. Breathing like he’d been in a fight, he wished he could paint the frustration out of his head. When the phone rang for the third time in as many minutes, the third time since he was released from prison six months ago, he reluctantly answered. “Quincy.” He hated the way his brother’s name came out sounding like the enemy. Quincy had been just a kid when Truman went to prison. Heavy breathing filled the airwaves. The hairs on Truman’s forearms and neck stood on end. He knew fear when he heard it. He could practically taste it as he ground his teeth together. “I need you,” his brother’s tortured voice implored. Need me? Truman had hunted down his brother after he was released from prison, and when he’d finally found him, Quincy was so high on crack he was nearly incoherent—but it didn’t take much for f**k off to come through loud and clear. What Quincy needed was rehab, but Truman knew from his tone that wasn’t the point of the call. Before he could respond, his brother croaked out, “It’s Mom. She’s really bad.”

5 Star Review plus Giveaway for The Darkest Link by Scarlett Cole

When a pin-up worthy tattoo artist meets a car mechanic on a Florida roadside, it feels like the start of a great one-night stand. But when feelings grow, and secrets are revealed, both of their lives will be at risk. The only question is from who? Find out in THE DARKEST LINK by RITA finalist, Scarlett Cole.

Title: THE DARKEST LINK
Author: Scarlett Cole
Series: Second Circle Tattoos #4
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Pub. Date: August 30, 2016

Synopsis:

When her car breaks down off the side of a lonely highway far from her sunny Miami home, tattoo artist Lia never expected her very own white knight to ride up on the back of a barely street-legal motorcycle...and she never expected to fall for her dark savior. After a string of failed relationships and a bruised heart Lia is not looking for forever, and the hot mechanic, with his sexy scruff and shaggy hair, is simply impossible to resist. He's the perfect candidate for a mind-blowingly-perfect, no-strings-attached one-night stand.

Reid left his life in Chicago far behind him and hasn't been back, but he's never been able to escape the guilt he feels about his own painful role in inviting a monster into his baby sister's life. A monster who almost destroyed her. Being with Lia is an unexpected gift, one he doesn't feel he deserves, and their one night together has him wanting more than he should. When he surprises her at her tattoo studio, Second Circle Tattoos, in Miami, he's in for a shock—and a fist to the face—when his past and present collide.

With secrets coming to the surface, Reid and Lia are thrown into a world of betrayal and lies that threatens to pull them under, and the last link to his former life may be the darkest of them all.

Review:
I've been a fan of this series since I read the first book. So obviously I this one, it's Harper's brother. This is an emotional story. It's one of redemption and second chances. It's a must read especially for fans of this series.

Reid holds onto so much guilt. He blames himself for Harper's attack. Obviously he loves his sister of he feels so intensely that he is to blame. In order for him to move on with his life he must get Harper's forgiveness.
Ironically the woman that Reid becomes involved with is friends with his sister. Chance meeting brings him face to face with Harper but it doesn't go as planned. Emotions run high on both sides of the issue. Once everything is out in the open, everyone gets a chance to rebuild relationships that were strained.

For Lia, she lives two lives. With her friends and colleagues, she's the pinup princess. For her family, she's the disappointment who refuses to conform. She has spent so much time trying to hide her true self, she just wants to be free. Meeting Reid is a blessing. He shows her that she's perfect, tattoos and all. He helps her to understand that unconditional love means to love someone for who they are, not what you try to make them be.
Lia's father stoops to a new low in order to make his family appear perfect. Lia and her mother are put in harms way, luckily Reid is there to pick up the pieces.

I absolutely loved everything about this book. This author has become one of my favorites and a go to author for romance books.

What I love about this series is that Cole gives us the perfect mix of suspense and romance. You're always intrigued from beginning to end. My hope is that this isn't the end of these characters. I would love to see more of them in the future.

“What is this?” she asked, running her hand over the elongated hood.
“A 1958 Ford Thunderbird. It was a shell when I bought it. Was found in an unused barn with a bunch of other old classics.”
The wheels were black with white faces, and the soft top was a creamy white. Reflections from the chrome cast light onto the white walls.
“I love it,” she said, excited to sit inside.
“Hood up or down?” Kenny asked, slipping her cases into the trunk.
“Oh, most definitely down,” Lia said. Screw the victory rolls, she could always put her hair into a high ponytail and add the red ribbon she had in her purse if her scarf failed. She reached into her bag to find it and tied it around her head.
“I like this,” Kenny said, fingering the knot under her chin gently. The way his eyes crinkled at the corners made her feel all kinds of gooey inside. Perhaps it was a good thing they lived a long drive away from each other. His very presence made it difficult to remember why she was taking some time off from men. But a little harmless flirtation was adding to the adventure of a few days off work. There couldn’t be any harm in that.
Once inside the car, Kenny took her hotel details and plugged them into his phone. “There are few downsides to the classics, but lack of sat-nav has to be one,” he said, turning the radio on. “Ready?”
“I feel like Thelma and Louise about to drive over the edge of the cliff,” she said with a laugh.
“Close. That was a 1966 Ford Thunderbird, eight years younger than this baby. Does that make me J.D.?”
“That depends. Are you planning on driving me to a motel, having your wicked way with me on the dresser, then stealing my life savings?”
“I know a motel, don’t know if they have a dresser, but more than willing to do a drive-by to find out.”
Lia laughed. “I was joking.”
“I wasn’t. Say the word, Red.”
He revved the engine several times, the low growl sexy as all hell, and grinned as he roared out onto the street. Lia watched his hand as he shifted the stick. He caressed the gear stick. The more she stared, the more turned on she became until she had to cross her legs and look out of the window.
Damn him for getting her so hot and bothered. She spared a glance back toward him, just as he turned to face her. And he winked. Because he knew.
And that just turned her on even more.

4 Star Review plus Giveaway for I Like Big Dragons And I Cannot Lie by Lani Lynn Vale

Title: I Like Big Dragons and I Cannot Lie Series: The Dragon Series #1 Author: Lani Lynn Vale Genre: Paranormal Romance
Keifer Vassago, The Prince of Dragons, has enough on his plate without adding a brunette with a bad attitude to the mix Fate has a way of screwing all his plans, though, whether he wants them screwed or not. One second he’s fetching his brother from yet another situation that could possibly compromise the Vassago name, and the next that brunette is grabbing his assets. Blythe isn’t after anyone’s assets, though. She’s a good girl. All she wants is to graduate from nursing school, get a job, and move out of her hell hole apartment. What she does not have time to deal with is a sexy bearded man that accuses her of grabbing his junk. She tries to forget about the encounter, but fate’s a cruel bitch. One second she’s a normal college student barely living paycheck to paycheck, and the next she’s setting her panties on fire with powers from an ancient immortal dragon. To add insult to injury, she’s hearing voices, and none of them are figments of her imagination. Blythe’s life is turned upside down, and Keifer forces her to adapt even though she doesn’t want to. She likes her life just the way it is. Not to mention she wants nothing to do with that arrogant asshole. She doesn’t care that he rides a dragon. She also could care less about his stupid beard, and his sexy eyes. Yeah, who was she kidding? She wasn’t convincing anybody.

Lani Lynn Vale is known for her contemporary/suspense romance and she's pretty good at it. She has decided to change things up and venture into the world of paranormal and fantasy. It's a huge leap, especially when you've built your whole career on one specific genre.

I'm a huge fan of Vale's and couldn't wait to read this book. I have to admit that with my excitement, there was a little skepticism. Upon reading it, I realized that the author does have a good thing here.

The story is about humans and dragons. Dragons roam the earth and humans are their riders. They have a deep connection and are able to communicate telepathically. The enemies are called purists. Uber religious people who basically feel that dragons are an abomination. Unlike Vale's other books, it seems this series will have a common enemy that will carry over to each book. So reading each book as a standalone is most likely an impossibility.

The storyline was a little shakey at first. It was almost like the concept was being forced at you. You can tell that this was new for her. I applaud anyone who is willing to try something outside of their comfort zone.

The hero of this book is Keifer, Prince of Dragons. He is to be king but us reluctant to take the throne. Why? Part of him feels he doesn't deserve it. His father was a great king but he died. Now Keifer has to step into his shoes. He's basically doing the job of king, minus the title. I can understand Keifer's reluctance in ascending the throne. His pops was supposedly a badass king who everyone loved. Stepping into his place means that he has a high standard he must reach. It means he has to be as good, if not better than his father. That in of itself would leave me sweating.

Keifer has an ally, Blythe. She's human. They meet unexpectedly and create a tidal wave of changes that begin to happen to them. Blythe knows of dragons but doesn't know of all the magic that goes with them. So when magical things begin to happen, she thinks she's going crazy. I don't blame Blythe for reacting the way she do. Let's be honest, she actually takes it better than the rest of us. I probably would have went screaming for the hills.

When Blythe and Keifer come together, it's like an explosion. These two are meant to be. I loved reading about them and can't wait for more about these two.

Vale did a great job with this book. You can tell some of her contemporary romance writing bled over into this story. With some books it wouldn't work but with her it does. By creating a good mix of genres she is able to open her books up to a new wave of readers. I think this is going to be a fantastic series that will only get better as it progresses.

“Holy freaking crap!!! This book is absolutely nothing like I expected and everything I could ever want in a paranormal. This is Lani Lynn Vale’s first foray into paranormal and let me tell you she knocked it out of the park.” - Devious Book Blog

I woke up to my lower half on fire.
At first, I thought it was just an aftereffect of my dreams, but when I finally peeled my eyes open, I could smell smoke.
When I opened my lids and looked down, it was to literally find my panties on fire.

I screamed and rolled; rolling so far in the bed that I hit the floor and kept going.

By the time the fire was finally out, my panties were burned to ash. However, my skin was perfectly fine. In fact, the hairs that I’d planned on having waxed later in the week were gone.
It’d given me a fire waxing…minus the wax.

“What the fuck?” I yelled, staring down at my now hair-free mound.

Blasphemy.
My eyes widened and I looked around. Was someone in the room with me?
I started reaching for the lamp but couldn’t find it. There was a pile of things beside the bed that I’d knocked over in my haste to get up. I could only assume that the lamp was one of those things.
“Light, light, light,” I chanted, shifting through the things on the floor.
My candles that I had interspersed around the room all lit at once, and I screamed.
“What the hell is going on?” I shrieked.
Macy started hammering on the wall, or her boyfriend. Whatever. Fuck her.
I narrowed my eyes at the wall.
That stupid heifer! I’m allowed to scream if I want to. She fucks day and night, and she’s going to bang on my wall to get meto quiet down?
Master Farrow has always had excellent stamina with the ladies.
I froze, turning around and scanning the room.
“Who’s there?” I asked nervously.
A deep, rumbly laugh filled my head and my eyes widened.
“Holy mother of God, get out of my head!” I yelled.
The voice in my head continued to chuckle. Oh, this is almost as good as when Prince Keifer came into his powers. He didn’t shriek like you do, though.
I’m a married mother of three. My kids are all under 5, so I can assure you that they are a handful. I’ve been with my paramedic husband now for ten years, and we’ve produced three offspring that are nothing like us. I live in the greatest state in the world, Texas.
