~*~ New Release plus Review ~*~ Saved By The SEAL by Diana Gardin

SAVED BY THE SEAL
A Battle Scars Novel
Diana Gardin
Releasing March 8th, 2016
Forever Romance

He saved her life. She showed him how to live it . . .

When he sees a woman drowning, Grisham Abbot immediately leaps into action. The Navy SEAL forgets his training, his past, and the explosion that forever scarred his body and his mind. He can only remember what he was born to do. But saving Greta Owen is a complication Grisham is definitely not ready for. Shes stunning and gorgeouslike sunlight after months of darkness. Yep, Grisham is so, so screwed.

Greta knows that the smart thing to do would be to run from Grisham. Hes a wounded warrior, and his head is a big-time mess. The problem is that Greta wants to make him her mess. One kiss and shes completely in over her head. And if this SEAL risked himself to save her, then she must find a way to bring him back to life . .
.

Saved by the SEAL is the story of Grisham and Greta. They are two characters introduced in the previous book. I personally didn't read the previous book, so I wasn't familiar with their stories. I felt that even though I didn't read that book, it didn't hinder me in any way when reading this story.

They have a chance "meeting" when Grisham saves her one night. From that night, they develop a bond that grows throughout the story. Like any couple, they have their ups and downs but in the end they work it out. Even though the characters knew each other, the author still took the time for their romance to build. Grisham feels that he is a damaged man. Having been injured in War, he lost his foot and doesn't really see himself as relationship material. Greta has been crushing on Grisham for two years. She knew him before and after his injury. She feels that he is still the same man he was before. Like she says, “You’re still you, Grisham. You’re still the same guy I met and crushed on two years ago. You just have a bit more of a story to tell. That’s all.”

The book isn't just romance, there is some suspense too. Greta has a stalker and you don't find out who until close to the end.

Overall I liked the book. It took me a little bit at the beginning to really get into it but it was worth the read. I recommend it to anyone looking for an alpha male SEAL book.

"I was born in a small town in Kentucky. My family began poor, but worked their way to owning a restaurant. My mother was one of the best cooks I have ever known, and she instilled in all her children the value of hard work, and education.
Taking after my mother, I've always love to cook, and became pretty good if I do say so myself. I love to experiment and my unfortunate family has suffered through many. They now have learned to steer clear of those dishes. I absolutely love the holidays and my family puts up with my zany decorations.
For now, my days are spent writing, writing, and writing. I have two children who both graduated this year from college. My daughter does my book covers, and my son just tries not to blush when someone asks him about my books.
Currently I am writing five series of books- The Last Riders, The VIP Room, Predators MC, Biker Bitches, and The Dark Souls.
All my books are written for one purpose- the enjoyment others find in them, and the expectations of my fans that inspire me to give it my best.”

Reaching across the table, Zach took one of Gabriella’s hands in his and just marveled at how soft it was. He always wondered what her skin felt like and now that he knew, he wanted to feel more. “Don’t leave me. Please.”

Her blue eyes filled with tears and she used her free hand to quickly wipe them away before they fell and then studied their hands on the table. “Zach,” she said softly, “we’ve been over this.”

“I know, I know,” he replied just as softly. “I need another chance, Gabriella. I need a chance to make things right.” He looked up, his gaze meeting hers. “I need you.”

Deciding to be bold, he turned her hand over and twined their fingers together and gently squeezed. He was surprised she didn’t pull away and thought maybe—just maybe—they were making progress. “I know I can’t erase the things I’ve said and done, but if you’ll give me one more chance, Gabs, I promise not to screw up. If I do anything to upset you, you can walk away. Hell, you can slap me in the face, kick me in the shin or throw something heavy at me and I’ll take it. I just…I can’t do this without you.”

Her eyes never left their joined hands.

“I don’t want to do this without you,” he said quietly.

“I’m afraid to…believe you.” He barely heard her words, they were uttered so softly.

Everything inside of him clenched with pain. His always confident, ever-efficient assistant was now distrusting and uncertain—because of him. “I don’t know what to say to make you believe me. Tell me. Tell me what I need to do. Anything. Anything you need from me to gain your confidence, and I’ll do it.”

She looked up at him. “It’s not that easy. Every day I walked into the office, I gave you another chance. Every time you berated me or made me feel like I screwed up and I came back, I gave you another chance. From my standpoint, you’ve had two years’ worth of second chances. I think I’ve been more than generous.”

His other hand reached out to cup her hand in both of his. “I know you have and you have no idea how much I appreciated it.” She looked at him with disbelief. “It’s true! I know I never said it but every morning you were there, I was thankful. Every time you walked into my office, I was thankful. Please. I’m begging here, Gabs.”

Shock.
Then more shock.
And thenaahGabriella melted into Zach. After all they had been through together, after everything they had talked about tonight, this was so not the way she envisioned their time together ending.
But she was completely on board with it.
For years she had dreamed about what it would be like for Zach Montgomery to kiss her and now that he was, she needed to stop talking to herself and start enjoying it!
Zach must have realized she was on board because his second crutch fell to the floor as his arms banded around her waist. Everything inside Gabriella melted at the heated contact. He was hard where she was soft and they justfit. Her hands tentatively stroked their way up his muscular arms and then paused on his shoulders. It feltnaughtyto be touching her boss like this.
Waitnot her boss. Zach. She was touching Zach. Get your head out of the office, girl!
A low hum emanated from Zach and she let her hands slowly glide up the strong column of his throatand stopped and lingered on his now clean-shaven jawand up into his hair. It was longer than hed ever worn it but it was thick and silky and her fingers just sort of gently grasped and tugged to hold him to her.
If possible, Zach moved in even closer and Gabriella was thoroughly pressed from head to toe between him and the wall. His lips were devouring her but his arms stayed as they weretightly banded and holding her close as if he was afraid shed get away.
Not likely.
Right now, there wasnt another place on the planet she wanted to be. Which was a bit ironic considering that less than a minute ago she wanted to be anyplace but here! Funny how fast things could change.
She struggled between needing to take a breath and never letting Zachs lips leave hers again. As if reading her mind, he began to trail kisses along her cheek and her jaw. He nipped at her earlobe and then stopped to simply inhale her.
Do you have any idea how long Ive wanted to do this? he growled lowly against her ear.
Hopefully as long as Ive wanted you to, she openly admitted as she rubbed herself against him.
He chuckled softly. The first time you walked through my door, I wanted to touch you. Kiss you. His tongue lightly traveled down the side of her neck to her collarbone. Make love to you.
Gabriella trembled at his words. How was it possible she didnt notice that? How had he kept it a secret for so long? And why? It was on the tip of her tongue to ask him, but he raised his head and gave her a very sexy grin before reclaiming her lips. There was no shock this time, just anticipation. Zachs admission had pretty much done it all for her, she was putty in his hands.
She wanted to move, to get to a place where her back wasnt pressed against a wall. But again, she didnt want to stop what Zach was doing long enough to even say anything. Her nails raked his scalp and she felt the growl vibrate through him. She pushed her breasts more firmly against him, and felt his erection nudge her belly.
The wall was just fine.

BREAKING A LEGEND
Kavanagh Legends #1
Sarah Robinson
Released Sept 29th, 2015
Loveswept

Perfect for fans of Katy Evans and Monica Murphy, Sarah Robinson’s blistering-hot series debut introduces the Kavanagh brothers—mixed martial arts fighters who work hard, play hard, and love with all their hearts.

As one of the big names at his family’s gym, Legends, MMA star Rory Kavanagh is used to being in the spotlight—until a gruesome leg injury knocks him out of the cage. Rory is left feeling sidelined in more ways than one, battling the inner demons that come with losing the one shot at his dreams. Then Clare walks into his life and gives him a new dream: winning her heart. There aren’t many new faces in Woodlawn these days, but this tough, beautiful stranger makes Rory want to get his life back into fighting shape.

Clare Ivers doesn’t think she’ll be able to tell anyone what really brought her to the close-knit Bronx neighborhood where she just started bartending. But her life’s on pause and her past is catching up fast, try as she might to move on—with new friends, steady work, and a chiseled alpha male trying to get her attention. Even though Rory’s more than a little intense, she can’t deny that her heart beats faster when he looks at her with those soulful silver eyes. Clare thought she was done with love, but Rory might just be man enough to show her she thought wrong.

Breaking Legend is the story of Rory and Clare. They are two people who are broken by different events in their lives. Rory was at three top of the MMA world but one bad fight and an injury have taken him out. Instead of trying to live the new path he was given, he drowns his sorrows in alcohol, drugs and a different woman each night. Clare is running from her past and isn't looking for a relationship. They don't realize that they are what each other needs. There is a long hill for them to climb to get to were they need to be. It's full of doubt and trust issues but they ultimately prove that love and family can conquer all.

Clare's character is a little timid but warms up. She's had a hard life and that can explain her lack of trust in others. Her lifeline seems to be Rory because they both seem to be at a crossroad in life.
The Kavanagh clan is not one to mess with. They basically own the section of town they reside and are a force to be reckoned with. They have a balance among themselves. They are not all brooding, they can be lighthearted too. Rory's character is surprising, he comes off as the tough person but he actually has a soft side. It is one that he keeps hidden from everyone.

The author did a great job with this book. She was able to keep it suspenseful and still have romance. The atmosphere is similar to that of MC books but this is set in more of an athletic setting. I loved the family feel that Robinson brings to this book. Hopefully it means more books for all of the Kavanagh men.

Overall I enjoyed the book. It was a great read. Breaking Legend is a wonderful start to the series.

“I really appreciate it, but you don’t have to give it to me for free,” Clare’s brow furrowed as she took the membership card from the spunky redhead.
“Oh, please, girl. I used to work busing tables at O’Leary’s Pub when I was in high school. Is Cian still in charge over there?” She smiled back as she continued putting Clare’s information into the gym’s computer system.
“Yeah, he’s my supervisor.” Clare nodded at the woman, slightly mesmerized by how piercing and blue her eyes were in contrast to the bright red wavy hair that flowed down most of her back.
“Then believe me, these self-defense classes can be written off as a work expense on next year’s taxes.” Both women snickered. Clare leaned against the counter, enjoying the interaction, since she hadn’t made any friends around her age in the three weeks she had lived here. Clare felt a pang of regret slice through her as she wished that an irritating boss was the only reason she needed self-defense classes.
“I’m Casey Kavanagh, by the way.” The redhead reached out her hand to Clare, who accepted it happily.
“Clare—well, I guess you already know that.” Clare pointed toward the driver’s license that Casey was still holding. Casey just smirked and waved her hand nonchalantly.
“So—Kavanagh? You’re part of the family who owns this place?” Clare tried not to sound like she was prying, but she was curious. She’d heard that name all over town since she got here.
“Yeah, my uncle owns it. Started it up back in the late seventies. It’s been remodeled lately, but we definitely still have the old-school reputation.”
“Oh.” Clare nodded, not sure what that meant or what to say.
“Here, you can have this back. I think I have everything in here now.” Casey handed her the license. “The thirty-day trial membership begins today, and then we can talk about different types of plans after you’ve had a chance to try out our various amenities and classes.”
“Thanks. Do you think I could have a peek around? See where the locker rooms are and stuff like that?” Clare tucked her driver’s license back into her wallet along with the new membership card, then stuffed the wallet into the small brown purse that was slung over her shoulder.
“Hell, yeah! Come on, let me give you a tour. Welcome—officially, this time—to Legends!” Casey popped out from around the back of the counter, motioning for her to follow.
Clare watched the bouncy, energetic woman in amusement as she followed her, feeling slightly overdressed in her knee-length red dress and thigh-high black boots, compared to Casey’s black yoga pants and neon-green long-sleeved tee.
“Okay, so here are the locker rooms. Men over there, women right here.” Casey started to point toward various doors they passed as the hallway opened up into a large room with an open floor plan.
“The entire far side of the room is pretty much for the fighters, not really anything but testosterone and ball sweat over there.” Casey slid her arm around Clare’s elbow to pull her along.
Clare giggled at Casey’s remarks and took in the view of dozens of men on weight-lifting machines, standing in front of weight benches, and in the rings. She had to agree, there was definitely a lot of testosterone in here.
“But over here is where things are a bit less noisy.” Casey led Clare to a side hall that opened into several small classrooms. A few of the rooms were filled with people doing group exercises; Clare recognized a yoga class and a spinning class.
“All the classrooms are walled in by windows, but the glass is so thick that you can’t hear all the noise from the rings.” Casey indicated an empty classroom that was at the back wall of the gym.
The door they entered through was set in a wall of all glass, just like the back wall of the room that gave them a view of the street. Clare strode toward the back wall, loving the openness and the view of pedestrians passing by.
“Yeah, that’s my favorite part, too,” Casey said.
“What, people watching?”
“Of course! People are weird, which is fun,” Casey quipped, joining her at the window as they stood side by side.
“See, there’s an example of weird right there.” Casey pointed at a behemoth of a man crouching on the sidewalk with a large dog next to him.
“That’s my cousin, Rory, but he’s more like a brother. He works here sometimes, used to be a fighter but got hurt in the championships last year. Almost couldn’t walk again since his leg pretty much split in two. A year later, not only is he walking, but there he is crouched down, feeding a damn street dog.”
Clare watched more closely, and now she noticed the second dog. In front of both the man and the larger dog beside him was a smaller, frail-looking pup. It couldn’t be more than twenty pounds, although it seemed like it should be much bigger. The dog’s ribs were poking out of its side as Casey’s cousin slowly fed him a sandwich. He was careful to hold his hand out flat and she could see his lips moving from his profile, realizing he was probably coaxing the dog to accept the food.
“I think that’s sweet. I was studying to be a vet before I moved here.” Clare’s voice was soft as she admired the man’s kindness toward the stray.
The man stood and stretched a bit, opening up the other half of a bagged sandwich and then settling himself on the curb by the thin dog, who seemed more trusting of him now. In his new position, Clare could see more of his face and she realized that it was the same burly yet handsome man she had flirted with at O’Leary’s last night.
Of course, that was before he had broken her boss’s nose.
She felt a stirring in her abdomen as she watched him, her mouth slightly parting. The brown pup cautiously took a few steps to him, then sat and placed his head in Rory’s lap. Clare felt a glow as her heart warmed at the sight.
“I’m so not an animal person, but Rory would help a goddamn rat if he found one. That bigger dog there is his shadow, Ace. Barely ever see the two of them apart.” Casey stepped away from the window.
Clare hesitated, watching Rory and Ace for a moment longer, then pulled herself away to go follow her new friend. It had been a while since she had thought about her previous career aspirations, and a wave of sadness passed over her as she thought of the different trajectory of her life now. Maybe now that she was starting over, she could go back to school, she found herself hoping.

Interview

Can you tell the readers a little bit about the Deacons of Bourbon Street and your book Fire Me Up?

The Deacons of Bourbon Street is an exciting new multi-author MC romance series with a little bit of a difference. At the start of the series, our biker heros are ex-members of an outlaw biker club  some of them are still embracing the biker lifestyle and others have moved as far as they can from that life. When the president of the club dies, our four heroes are left a number of properties on Bourbon Street in New Orleans and my hero Travis Sinclair, wants to sell the buildings and get the hell back out of town. Hes happy with his new life away from the club but Vice President Ajax (whom the first book is about) has other ideas. So Travis moves into one of the properties, which happens to already be inhabited by a sexy Aussie who runs an art gallery there. As you can imagine, she is not impressed to have an uninvited house guest!

The Deacons of Bourbon Street is a series that you co-write with other authors. Is more difficult writing with other authors or is it easier?

Its a lot of fun writing with other authors  you can brainstorm together and chat with each other during the writing, encouraging each other to keep going. Also the hype is bigger than if you were writing alone  theres four people rather than one person to be excited about your book. I wouldnt say it is more difficult or easier than writing alone, it is simply different  you need to work as a team, rather than a one man band and that can bring both highs and lows. I would definitely work with these wonderful authors again.

If you could live as one of your book characters for 24 hours, which one would it be and why?

Oh, it would have to be Billie, because who wouldnt want a red-hot affair with brooding biker, Travis Sinclair? Plus shes got a fun job, a cute dog and a great life in one of my favourite places on earth.

Like all the leading men in your books,  Cash is very good looking. Where do you find inspiration for your male characters?

Im not a hugely visual writer, although we did have a group Pinterest board for this series. I guess most of my male characters have characteristics that I myself would like in a guy. Travis reminds me of a guy I used to know who loved riding motorbikes!

Speaking of inspiration, if Fire Me Up was a movie who would you cast as Cash and Billie?

Cash would be played by hottie Taylor Kinney and Billie would be played by Aussie actress, Asher Keddie.

Can you tell the readers 3 facts not listed in your author bio?

I didnt meet my Dad until I was 17; I have never seen a James Bond or Star Wars movie, and I have never eaten Sushi.

What 3 books should every book lover add to their personal library?

Wedding Night by Sophie Kinsella
The Husbands Secret by Liane Moriarty
Northern Lights by Nora Roberts

What is your current work in progress?

Im in the final couple of chapters of OUTBACK SISTERS, a rural romance in my Bunyip Bay series. Its about two sisters, two brothers, meddling teenage daughters and an online dating mix-up.

Do you have any additional information you would like to add?

Nope, but thanks so much for having me on your fantastic blog.

Review

I've read the first book in this series and I wasn't a fan of it but I thought I would give this book a try. I found that Fire Me Up was easier to get into than it predecessor. This author delivers a story that engages the reader. Johns also did a wonderful job in continuing the story that was left off by the previous author.

Travis arrives back in New Orleans after being gone for quite some time. It seems that all the former members of the now abolished club because of Priest's death. He is now part owner of the former clubhouse, which Billie resides in. Travis just wants to cut all tides to the town and that means selling the building. Billie has other plans because she wants to stay and run her gallery there. Travis fights his attraction to Billie, while she tries to show him all the beauty the city can offer. Travis is a tough character but his walls eventually crumble and he falls for Billie.

I found that this book didn't delve to much into the MC world. It touches lightly on it. So it's not on your he darker side, like most books in this genre. I enjoyed this author's interpretation of this series. I found that it was much easier to grasp than its predecessor was. With that being said, this book wasn't as exhilarating as I would have hoped. There were a few parts that dragged a little. I've never read this author's work before this book, so I don't know if this is typically her writing style or if it's just because it's a multi author series.

I would definitely read another book by this author, as for this series though, I will not finish it out.

Fucking Ajax wanted to keep the joint, revive the damn club, embrace the old brotherhood and Leon was all for it. They’d spent all night after the funeral downing bourbon, reliving “fond” memories and making plans and had gotten progressively more obsessed. Only he and Micah could see that the best thing for all of them would be to sell off the buildings Priest had left them and get the fuck back out of town. Tallahassee might seem boring in comparison to New Orleans but it was safe. This place still set him on edge; it made him feel things he didn’t want to feel. Travis knew the longer he stayed, the more likely he was to lose his shit with someone and end up in jail. Again.

Realizing she was still staring at him, he straightened and then gestured beyond them to the door that led inside. Despite her coolness, her paltry attempts at hostility did nothing to calm the fire rising within him. “Then you can show me to my room,” he told her, indecent suggestion dripping from his tone.

“Excuse me?”

Her outraged expression only wound the coil of heat inside him tighter. He turned and headed over to where he’d dumped his bag on the floor. Billie wasn’t wearing any shoes so he didn’t hear her stalking after him, but he felt her. She was following him and if he played his cards right, he could turn what had been a shitty day into one that would blow both their minds. Leaning over, he hitched his pack over his shoulder and then turned, expecting to come face to face with her alluring anger, but almost tripping over a little gray dog instead.

“What the fuck is that?” And where the hell had it come from? He steadied himself against the wall, his fingers closing around the edge of some grotesque fairy painting and peered down at the thing that had almost resulted in giving him a broken leg. It looked up at him, teeth bared, a low-growl emanating from somewhere beneath rolls and rolls of wrinkles. Travis had never been big on small dogs, but he had to give it to this one, it had balls.

Billie smiled that saccharine smile again. “This is Baxter and I think what he’s trying to say is you don’t have a room here.”

“Well, Baxter.” Travis glared down at the pathetic excuse for a dog. “That’s where you’re wrong. In case you misunderstood before, Billie,” he said, looking back to her, “I’m the new owner of this building. And, as it happens, I need a place to stay for a few weeks. Maybe longer.”

“That may be,” Billie said, standing her ground, although he noted a quiver in her voice, “but I already live here, so you’ll have to find somewhere else.”

“I don’t think so.” He shook his head and made to move past Billie and Baxter.

She side-stepped so that she was in his way and Baxter bared his teeth even more, his growl growing deeper. “If you are my new landlord,” Billie said, her tone filled with disgust, “then you’d know I have rights as the tenant. You need to give me notice for an inspection and you definitely can’t just move in.”

“Sweetheart,” he leaned forward so he was invading her personal space. She smelled sweet, some kind of strawberry shampoo or something that made his muscles tighten, but he ignored it. “No one tells me what the fuck to do. And, if you can afford a lawyer, then you’re not paying us enough rent.”
