~Review~Spike by Aimee-Louise Foster

Title: Spike
Series: The Aces MC book 3
Author: Aimee-Louise Foster
Publisher: Self Published
Published Date: July 18, 2015
Genre: Suspense/Romance/Biker MC
Page Count: 233

Twenty-two year old Louise has become accustomed to the abuse she has endured from the one person who should love her unconditionally. But when that abuse is directed at her children she finds the courage to leave her abusive husband to seek refuge for herself and her five year old twins, Tommy and Devon.

At the age of six, Connor ‘Spike’ Stokes watched in vain as his fourteen year old sister was brutally raped and murdered. This event was the catalyst for a turbulent upbringing but helped to shape Spike into the man he is today, caring, loyal and very protective.

A turn of events lead Louise and her children into Spike’s life but can she accept that a man would offer so much and want so little in return or will Spike’s urge to protect be too much for Louise?

Could this be the event that helps Spike deal with his past but could it also be at the detriment of his own heart being broken?

**Note to readers**
This book includes violence, rape and spousal abuse, if you think these topics will offend you please do not purchase.

Tissues please. Emotional read, this one is. From the murder of Spike's sister's to Louise and her kids escape from her abusive husband, this book wreaks havoc on your emotions. It's always emotional reading a story about a woman and her kids being abused by her husband. It's hard to read but made even harder when the child is abused. As a victim of child abuse myself, I sometimes have a hard time reading these scenes. Most of the time books are written that do not do the victims justice. Foster did a fantastic job in writing a story that gives Louise and her kids a voice. She shows that Louise can be strong and independent. I commend her on telling this story. She did a great job.

Spike is that character that everyone wants. He's strong but has a hint of vulnerability that makes him very appealing. He refuses to allow history to repeat itself so he'll do everything he can to protect Louise. Spike immediately becomes attached to Louise and her kids. It's not just the events with his sister that push him, but also that fact that he sees his future in them. Sure the guys are hard on him for giving piggyback rides and stuff but Spike wouldn't change it.

Louise is a great character. She's not a helpless damsel in distress. She is a fighter and will do anything to protect her kids. She fits in with the MC. She can handle the ins and outs of the club and embrace the members like family. Her kids Tommy and Devon are great too. They bring a lighthearted vibe to the story but also address the dark side of the abuse. The kids are able to bring the men of the MC to their knees even Bear.

The book does intertwine all of the MC characters. We are updated on all of their lives. We even get a glimpse at Paige and Chloe, Hound's kids, in preparation for their book. I never realized Paige was such a bitch. I do hope that it's revealed why she is the way she is in the next book.

I enjoy reading the books this author writes. She has a knack for bringing the drama and adding a few laughs in there too. I recommend reading the books in order, so you can get the full effect of the storyline. A must read MC series to add to your collection.

~~Review~~ City Lights by Colbie Kay

Title: City Lights (Satan's Sinners MC #1)
Author: Colbie Kay
Publisher: Self Published
Published Date: March 28, 2015
Genre: Romance/ Erotica/ Suspense
Page Count: 211

Zoey Porter has been wanting a way out. She wasn't expecting it to happen the way it did. Hanger, President of the Satan's Sinners, is an asshole. Never caring about anything or anybody except his self and his brothers. One night changes everything for the both of them and no one seen it coming. What happens when a sweet girl that's had her choices taken from her is found by Hanger? Will he start having more to care about and want to give her the life back that she lost?

With the boom of MC related books, you don't often find one that stands out. Kay's book, City Lights, stands out as a fantastic kickoff to the series. When most books, in this genre, either have too much sex or violence, Kay is able to find a happy medium.

Zoey is more than expected. Having come out of a violent relationship, you would expect her to be timid. Instead she shoots out with gusto and toughness. I admire her tenacity. She's not written as a character who is intimidating but one who is likable.

Hanger is a hardcore MC president. He never expected to find love. His character is emotional yet tough. He is the epitome of a MC president but has a softer side that is see with Zoey and her family. I love his character, especially after he learns sign language to communicate with Zoey's sister.

All of the characters work well together to help create this atmosphere. The only thing I have to say about them is that I wanted to know more about Ever and Writer and Bear and Jacey. I felt that their story-lines were not as developed as the others. I hope that we get more information on them in the future.

I loved Kay's storytelling. Especially when it came to Zoey. After leaving an abusive relationship, she did not just throw her character into another. She took her time and had them get to know each other first. I appreciate that. It seemed more real. I truly enjoyed reading this book and I look forward to reading more from this author.

~~Review~~ Hunted by Suzanne Steele

Title: Hunted (Dauntless MC #1)
Author: Suzanne Steele
Publisher: Self Published
Published Date: February 5, 2014
Genre: Erotica/Suspense
Page Count: 216

Talon: She walked into my world when I least expected it and like a sucker punch to my gut she knocked the wind from me. The last thing I need is some do-gooder feeling sorry for me and taking my case. I made the mistake of thinking she was here because she had a good heart-- what I didn't know... is the woman has heart...period.

She's going to need it because now the president of Dauntless MC is insisting she not only take over my case--but every legal case any one of the brothers have--now and in the future. He's not the kind of guy you say no to.

Grace: I walked into that jail to help a man I believed needed it. Whether I made a mistake that day or not is yet to be seen. One thing is for sure...I have been immersed into a world I know nothing about... against my will.

Whether I like it or not, I need this arrogant man who goes against everything I believe as a strong professional woman. I'm nobody's old lady, I'm nobody's fool, and I'm for sure nobody's property. What I am is...legal representation for the Dauntless MC chapter. My name is Grace. Welcome to my world.

I've read a lot of MC books. Some dark and gritty, some light and fun. This book is dark, gritty, and confusing. You think that you are reading a story about Talon and Grace, but really you have so many storylines going on at once. When it starts out you think it's just about a wrongly accused biker falling for the lawyer. Then you have a club girl after Talon's affections. Then the suspense would be catching the dirty cop. This cop named Derrick is the one who is after the club. He wants them to pay him to keep his mouth shut. We all know that they are not going to stand by and be told what to do by a dirty cop. This storyline becomes interesting because in the mix of this, Grace and Talon develop feelings. Talon is a dominating man, but you like him because he cares for Grace even if he is a little controlling.
All of a sudden in drops this escaped convicted serial killer after Grace. There really was no back story, it is just there. This one entangles the MC and Derrick. This is where their forces combine and a solution is formed. Thus ending the feud between Derrick and the MC. Thanks bad guy.
Then you have the unrequited affections of Grace's coworker. Evidently fate has it out for this MC. Not only is the coworker after Grace, but he will use any means necessary to get her. That comes in the form of a hit man.
By the end of the book, you have the club president's old lady being stalked. All this is going on and as a reader you are expected to follow it. These storylines would have been better if they were broken up into different books. As a reader I found myself getting dizzy from all the jumping.
I'm not trying to bash on the author. I think that she has great concepts for different books. Its just that she may have been a little over zealous with this one. If it was toned down, she would have had a fantastic book.

Blog Tour Review plus Giveaway: Shadowing Me by Crystal Spears

~Available September 22nd~
Shadowing Me
Breakneck Series #3
by Crystal Spears

~Synopsis~

Welcome back to the world of Breakneck where Pyro continues to mourn the loss of Lana, ZZ’s twins drive him crazy, and the whole MC prepares for the birth of Braxxon and Winter’s child. Things are quiet and calm… Or so it seems.

Shadow’s secrets are slowly being revealed, leaving him powerless to stop the resulting havoc. With Tatiana hot on his trail every time he turns around, the tables have turned, and now, she has become his Shadow.
As Winter and Braxxon begin a hostile takeover of the BDSM club owned by Shadow’s best friend, the unthinkable happens, and the result is the worst bloodshed in Breakneck history. The torture, violence, and death caused by the carnage will have the entire MC reeling from the loss.

When Shadow finally decides to stop denying his feelings for Tatiana, he discovers it may be too late. The Breakneck family loss is far too great for Tatiana to think about her own feelings for the one man who has constantly resisted her.

Causing further drama for the Breakneck crew, the Russians step back into the picture. Whether they are friend or foe remains to be seen. And when Winter gets an unexpected visitor, it throws Tatiana in a fit of rage and rebellion.

Welcome back to the real world of Breakneck… where bloodshed and mayhem are to be expected.

"What are your tastes today, my friend?"

Hmm… "Rose has me yearning for a pale, redhead."

Alec looks around. "Right over there." He nods his head to the left. "Haven’t had her, but I hear good things."

My eyes follow his line of sight until they reach the woman he is referring to. She’ll do. Although her skin is pale, her red hair is definitely not natural. After I finish looking over her body, my eyes go to her left wrist and I smirk. Lovely little, fake redhead, I’m coming for you.

I don’t bother with unnecessary goodbyes as I stalk my way over to her. I need to let some of this frustration loose, and as soon as possible. My demons claw at my chest cavity, begging for release. Her eyes roam my body and, stopping at the leather on my wrist, she nods in acceptance and puts her cigarette out. I don’t wait for her. I don’t have to. She’ll follow. I stroll through the club with confident movements that would make most spectators weak in the knees. I’m a man on a mission.

As I get to my room and dig out my key, the fake redhead comes up behind me. No words are necessary as she waits for me to unlock the door. I nudge it open with my foot, using my hand to gesture her inside first. I am not a complete asshole. I still have some manners.

Once the door is shut and locked, I shrug out of my leather cut and walk over to the closet. I have no patience for clutter. Thankfully, I’ve learned to separate my club from my extra-curricular activities because, let’s face it, some of my brothers are fucking disgusting. After hanging up my cut, I head towards the dresser.

"What shall I call you?" My hands slide along the cold, polished surface. I don’t bother looking at her yet. I’m studying her to see if she is looking for an emotional connection with her scene mate.

"Sunny, Sir."

Good. So far, we are on the same page, but I don’t like to be called Sir. "You’ll address me as Tavis."

"Tavis." She repeats it slowly, making sure she gets it correct.

"Yes, Sunny. Tavis, not Travis." My fingers continue to slowly caress the wood. "Drop your skirt and kick it over."

The sound of her zipper sings in my ears and the demons inside me rustle about. I fling my shades off and dig the contact case out of my pocket. With my back to her, I pinch the blue lenses out of my eyes, and as I place them in their container, her leather skirt lands on the toe of one of my boots. I want her frightened, and what better way to accomplish that than showing her my soulless eyes. "Now, your corset."

"Yes, Tavis." She murmurs.

Her breathing picks up as I unbuckle my pants and toe off my boots and socks.

I have been a fan of Crystal Spears’ Breakneck series since the very first book. I have loved the characters and cried along with them when tragedy happened. So when Shadowing Me finally arrived I did a happy dance. I have been waiting to read Shadow’s story. Spears lived up to the mayhem in the series that she created since the get-go. Upon reading the story in its entirety, I was left unsatisfied and slightly confused. I love Shadow’s character, all dark and brooding, but his sadist ways left me queasy and turned off. I know that he is into the whole BDSM life but I never imagined it was to that extreme. Then there is Tatiana, what is her deal? Who would willingly sign up to be treated that a way?
I was also confused because there was no real connection between the characters of Tatiana and Shadow. Honestly, Tatiana was more connected to her ex-boyfriend that cheated on her. So what is the basis of their relationship? Why are they attracted to each other?
I’m not saying that I disliked the book in its entirety. That is not the case. I liked that Spears sticks true to the MC image that she has created. I like that here MC world is not all about sex and drugs. There is a storyline there. Spears is a fantastic writer when it comes to creating her series. I just think that this book was not my cup of tea. When I pictured Shadow I never saw him in this light.
So with that being said, do I recommend this book? I would for those who are a fan of the darker BDSM. I caption you that it does get graphic in the story. I also warn you to read the previous books in the series to truly understand all the characters.

~Author Bio~

Crystal Spears has always had a passion for literature. She fell in love with reading at an early age. After spending a decade in business management, she began blogging and book reviewing, only to find that that didn't satisfy her craving. So, she began to write. Like any Indie out there, she had goals and dreams. She wrote Talania - a trip down memory lane, a beautiful, contemporary romance novel. It almost made it to the top, just almost. Someone told Crystal to write what she knew. She gave serious thought to that advice.

For many years, her father had been CEO of a well-known gun and surplus store in Texas. He then bought a tattoo shop where Crystal found herself surrounded by bikers. Hardcore bikers. The Bestselling Breakneck Series was born when Crystal decided to write what she knows. Don't get the wrong idea.

Her Breakneck series is completely fictional, but based on things seen and heard, she now had a place to start writing from that knowledge. Seize Me was hardcore, and Crystal became the writer known as the chick with no boundaries. She took the critics the wrong way and made her next bestseller Withstanding Me a little tamer. Readers were quick to point out that they did not like that and demanded that Crystal return to gritty writing. When asked if she would write gritty from now on, her only answer was... "I'll write what my readers want me to write, and I'll also write what I feel."

Crystal resides in Indiana with her husband and their two children. They have a pit named Dozer, two fish, and one fancy rat. They enjoy the outdoors, and camp, fish, and go boating as much as possible.

Review: Destined by Kira Johns

Title: Destined (Satan's Rebels MC #2)
Author: Kira Johns
Publisher: Kira Johns
Publish Date: September 12, 2014
Page Count: 238
Genre: Romantic Erotica

Book Blurb:

After surviving hell not once, but twice, Jade Moore is once again living, but her nights are filled with torture as she relives her time with the Condemned Warriors again and again. The only person capable of chasing away those demons is Viper, the man she has fallen deeply in love with. He is not just her hero, he is her destiny.

Viper’s troubled past makes him the cold, heartless killer that everyone fears. Then he met Jade, falling helplessly in love with her. As he helps Jade overcome her demons, he reveals his own, not knowing if he will lose her forever. But it isn't his past he should be worried about, it’s his future.

Shadow returns to Rockingham to be with the girl he has loved since they were kids, only to find she is in love with another man. He is determined to win the heart of the only girl he has ever loved, no matter the consequences. When secrets are revealed and tragedy strikes, will he put aside his desires and be the friend Jade needs?

Lives will be lost and heartache will be inevitable.

In the second book of the series, we continue to follow Viper and Jade. This is a story of their journey and love story. It shows how strong their bond is. Jade’s strength and determination is put to the test. In this book we fill the full impact of emotions that she is filling. I adore Jade’s character. Instead of being wallowing in her pain, she fights to get back to her life.
Viper shows what a remarkable character he is in this book. His love for Jade shows on every page.
Shadow’s character plays a big part in the book. After a break from everyone, he reappears. As if by destiny, it is at a time that Jade needs him most.  Shadow is what a good man should be. Instead of coming in guns blazing determined to get Jade back, he steps to the side and settles in as a friend.
This book takes a sad turn. Beware, Kleenexes will be needed. I won’t go into details, you’ll need to read the book.
Johns does a fantastic job with this book. She pulls at your heartstrings. You’ll find yourself yelling at the book to encourage the characters.
I love this series. I cannot wait for book 3. I recommend this series but to readers who are 18+.

Review: Destroyed by Kira Johns

Title: Destroyed (Satan's Rebels MC #1)
Author: Kira Johns
Publisher: Kira Johns
Published Date: August 5, 2014
Page Count: 86
Genre: Romantic Erotica

Blurb:

Jade Moore was no stranger to the MC lifestyle. Growing up the daughter of the President of the Satan's Rebels, she knew all about family and loyalty. Her world slowly crumbles when she loses not only her parents, but her brother and best friend. Her Uncle steps in and becomes the family she so desperately needs.

But what happens when the only family you have left betrays everything you have ever known?

Jade is drug into the Condemned Warrior world where she is imprisoned for four agonizing years. Beaten and brutalized, she wishes for death, but it never comes.

Reaper inherited the MC from his brother, Halo, and will do whatever it takes to keep the club safe. Anything, including handing over his niece to the club's enemy. All he has to do is convince her brother, Tank, and best friend, Shadow, that she has run away. Easy. But what Reaper never expects is for Tank and Shadow to come home looking for answers years later and discovering the truth.

Tank and Shadow return to their hometown to investigate missing funds. It's when they begin digging for the evidence, they discover a much darker secret that Reaper has been hiding. Enlisting the help of the club's Sergeant at Arms, Viper, they set out to rescue Jade and bring her home where she belongs.

Viper's reputation is well known both inside and out of the MC. He is a cold-blooded killer, incapable of any feeling but hatred. His allegiance lies with Tank and the club. He will do whatever it takes to bring Jade home, even if it means crossing enemy lines to save her. What he doesn't expect is to fall for her.

In Destroyed we learn about Jade and Viper. Two people brought together by horrendous circumstances.  Jade was given to a rival MC by someone who was supposed to love her. During her time away, she is tortured in every way possible. Jade is a strong character. Even though she is living a nightmare, she still stays strong.
Viper is Jade’s “Knight in Shining Armor”. He saves her and in turn she saves him. They are two kindred spirits that were brought together. I loved Viper, he is an alpha male but with a sweet and caring side.
The author, Kira Johns, did a wonderful job with this book. She shows it from a multiple POV but the reader doesn’t get lost in it. I loved that the author did not go into graphic detail about Jade’s torture. You still feel for Jade but you are not detoured from reading it.
Overall I loved the book. I cannot wait to read more in the series. I have to warn that the book ends in a BIG cliffhanger; so be sure to pick up the second book too. A definite recommend but for readers 18+.
