Twenty-two year old Louise has become accustomed to the abuse she has endured from the one person who should love her unconditionally. But when that abuse is directed at her children she finds the courage to leave her abusive husband to seek refuge for herself and her five year old twins, Tommy and Devon.

At the age of six, Connor ‘Spike’ Stokes watched in vain as his fourteen year old sister was brutally raped and murdered. This event was the catalyst for a turbulent upbringing but helped to shape Spike into the man he is today, caring, loyal and very protective.

A turn of events lead Louise and her children into Spike’s life but can she accept that a man would offer so much and want so little in return or will Spike’s urge to protect be too much for Louise?

Could this be the event that helps Spike deal with his past but could it also be at the detriment of his own heart being broken?

**Note to readers**
This book includes violence, rape and spousal abuse, if you think these topics will offend you please do not purchase.

Tissues please. Emotional read, this one is. From the murder of Spike's sister's to Louise and her kids escape from her abusive husband, this book wreaks havoc on your emotions. It's always emotional reading a story about a woman and her kids being abused by her husband. It's hard to read but made even harder when the child is abused. As a victim of child abuse myself, I sometimes have a hard time reading these scenes. Most of the time books are written that do not do the victims justice. Foster did a fantastic job in writing a story that gives Louise and her kids a voice. She shows that Louise can be strong and independent. I commend her on telling this story. She did a great job.

Spike is that character that everyone wants. He's strong but has a hint of vulnerability that makes him very appealing. He refuses to allow history to repeat itself so he'll do everything he can to protect Louise. Spike immediately becomes attached to Louise and her kids. It's not just the events with his sister that push him, but also that fact that he sees his future in them. Sure the guys are hard on him for giving piggyback rides and stuff but Spike wouldn't change it.

Louise is a great character. She's not a helpless damsel in distress. She is a fighter and will do anything to protect her kids. She fits in with the MC. She can handle the ins and outs of the club and embrace the members like family. Her kids Tommy and Devon are great too. They bring a lighthearted vibe to the story but also address the dark side of the abuse. The kids are able to bring the men of the MC to their knees even Bear.

The book does intertwine all of the MC characters. We are updated on all of their lives. We even get a glimpse at Paige and Chloe, Hound's kids, in preparation for their book. I never realized Paige was such a bitch. I do hope that it's revealed why she is the way she is in the next book.

I enjoy reading the books this author writes. She has a knack for bringing the drama and adding a few laughs in there too. I recommend reading the books in order, so you can get the full effect of the storyline. A must read MC series to add to your collection.
