~*~ 5 Star Must Read ~*~ Justice For Corrie by Susan Stoker

Title: Justice For Corrie
Series: Badge of Honor: Texas Heroes Book 3
Author: Susan Stoker
Publisher: Stoker Aces Production LLC
Published Date: March 8, 2016
Genre: Romance/Military/Suspense
Page Count: 286

Book Description:

Blind since birth, Corrie Madison relies on her other sharpened senses in her job as a chiropractor. Never did she imagine she’d have to depend on them to identify a killer. But when a man enters her practice, murdering everyone in his path, Corrie is the only witness—putting her directly in the killer’s crosshairs.

Officer Quint Axton wasn’t looking for love, or even a relationship, until he meets Corrie. Beautiful and brave, resilient and intelligent, she’s everything Quint wants—if he can keep her alive long enough to explore their mutual attraction. The threats on Corrie’s life are escalating. Surely a blind person is helpless against a ruthless killer?

Hardly. Corrie is about to prove that disabled does not equal defenseless.

My Review:

Susan Stoker, the Queen of Military Romance, is at it again. This time she is bringing us a story from her Badge of Honor series. She has tackled storylines where heroines were kidnapped, assaulted, dealt with childhood issues and such. Now we have a heroine who is blind. It's not that big of a deal but Stoker is known for having some independent lead females. It makes you wonder how she would work this story. She does it beautifully, that's how she does it. She paints Corrie as an independent woman but doesn't over do it. Sure she can do things on her own, thanks to her parents and some cool technology. But she does know when to let people help, like when the handsome Quint wants to help out.

Like all of the author's books, the female lead is put into a situation that is life threatening. This time it is one that seems to be out of the headlines. Corrie happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, work. A madman comes in on one random day and shoots up the place. Thanks to her quick thinking, Corrie is able to hide and save her life. Everything that happens this day throws her headfirst into a situation she doesn't want and directly into Quint's arms. A romance forms and Corrie finds that she has something more to fight for, her love for Quint.

Quint is the kind of hero that you hope author would create. He is sensitive and kind but can be a total alpha male if need be. He is a perfect match for Corrie. He knows when to reign in the alphaness and let her take the lead. Characters that are written so well for each make for such an amazing read.

When reading Stoker's books, you can tell she takes her job seriously. She does her research and gives the reader the best information in each book. Sure she could do a half job that still gives the reader an entertaining book but she takes it to the next level. It's much appreciated. Stoker's writing has evolved since her first book. Every book she publishes is better than the last. In a genre where storylines can become tiresome and predictable, she has found a way to keep the reader entertained and pull in new fans.

This book and series are worth reading. If you haven't had the pleasure of reading one of her books, pick this one up today. You'll be addicted.

~*~ ARC Review ~*~ Rescuing Rayne by Susan Stoker

Title: Rescuing Rayne
Series: Delta Force Heroes Book #1
Author: Susan Stoker
Published Date: February 9, 2016
Genre: Romance/ Military/Suspense
Page Count: 269

**ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review **

Book Description:

As a flight attendant, Rayne Jackson is used to cancellations, but she never dreamed her latest would lead to a whirlwind tour of London with a handsome stranger…or a life-altering night in his bed. One evening is all the enigmatic man can give her, and Rayne greedily takes it, despite suspecting it will never be enough.

Heading home after another extreme mission, Keane "Ghost" Bryson hadn't planned to seduce someone during his layover, but Rayne is too sweet to resist. Being a Delta Force member means lying to protect his identity, which is unfortunate, considering Rayne seems made for Ghost, right down to the tattoo on her back. For the first time in his life, regret fills him as he slips away the following morning.

Both are shocked when, months later, they meet again—under the worst possible circumstances. Seems fate has given them a second chance…if they can survive the terrorist situation they're in. If Rayne can forgive Ghost his lies. And if Ghost can trust Rayne to be strong enough to endure the secrets and uncertainty that come with loving a Delta Force soldier.

My Review:

Rescuing Rayne is the start of a brand new series called Delta Force Heroes. Fans of Stoker's SEAL of Protection series will find an easy transition into this series. It also helps that a few SEAls drop in occasionally too. This Rayne and Ghost's story. Ghost is a love  'em and leave  'em kind of guy. He isn't that way to purposely hurt women, in his eyes he thinks he is protecting them. He is a part of a Delta Force team. He knows his missions are dangerous for himself and he doesn't want to risk put that danger on a woman. He couldn't live with himself is someone got hurt. In walks Rayne, the woman who is about to shake Ghost's world to the core. She is the opposite of Ghost but exactly what he needs. Rayne is a romantic and a bookworm. She approaches Ghost and engages in conversation that leads to something more. Always the good girl, Rayne has never thought about doing something bad. Having a one night stand with Ghost would be bad but oh so good. Once their night of passion is over, they both go their separate ways. The leave but the leave a part of themselves with the other person. It's months later before the they meet again. The circumstances are not ideal but they know it must be fate. They take the leap and begin a relationship. The road to happiness is not smooth. They have a fight a head of themselves to prove that they are meant to be.

The heat level of this book was scorching. Stoker tends to be tame in her other books compared to the hot sex scenes in this one. OMG! Melt your panties off HOT. Ghost is a true alpha male and likes to take control in the bedroom. He even has a kinky side. *wink wink*.

Stoker is known for putting her heroines through the ringer. She doesn't hold back here. I think this was one of the scariest scenes that she has written for a character. She takes Rayne to the brink. As a reader you are there with her. You're hopping that she doesn't have to go through what her attacker's have planned for her. Just like Rayne, you're praying for a rescue. It's graphic but you feel the emotion that the scene is capturing. Another thing that puts the reader in the moment is that the author pulls from the headlines. Because she is writing about a Delta Force team, she is able to use the events overseas as a backdrop to the story. This just adds another layer to the story and becomes another factor that pulls you in.

Other than Rayne and Ghost, my favorite characters were Truck and Mary. The bicker back and forth but it is like foreplay for them. I can't wait to read more about them. I know their book will be hotter than this one.

Stoker kicked off this series with a bang. She proves that she is the go to author for military romance. I enjoy reading her books and always look forward to the next one. I definitely recommend that you read this book.

~*~ ARC Review ~*~ Justice for Mickie by Susan Stoker

Title: Justice For Mickie
Series: Badge Of Honor: Texas Heroes Book 2
Author: Susan Stoker
Publisher: Stoker Aces Production
Published Date: November 10, 2015
Genre: Romance/Suspense
Page Count: 182

For Cruz Livingston, becoming an FBI agent is a lifelong dream, guarding the streets of San Antonio, a calling. His latest assignment—infiltrating the Red Brothers Motorcycle Club—will help stem the flow of illegal drugs brought into the city by the violent gang. He expects the job to be dangerous. He doesn’t expect to meet the woman of his dreams while undercover.

Mickie Kaiser is refreshingly sweet, but her sister is intimately involved with the RBMC’s president. Cruz can’t afford to come clean about his double life without putting his operation in danger, but as violence creeps ever closer to Mickie, his priority becomes crystal clear. Cruz will do anything to keep Mickie alive…even if it means losing her love.

I was one of the select few to receive an advance copy for Justice For Mickie by Susan Stoker. I have to admit though, going into this I was slightly conflicted. I adore Mrs. Stoker's books and bow down to her greatness in romance writing. I also love MC books and it's known that the MC in this book is not your mama's MC. I think that showing the barbaric side of this outlaw MC is pivotal in this book. It creates great drama and helps to set up the storyline. That being said, I got over being conflicted and realized that Stoker's awesome writing trumped that. =)

In all of Stoker's books her lead male characters are fiercely loyal and Cruz is no exception. Cruz wants to help Mickie and her sister, even if Angel is a royal B. It's a struggle for him because he has to solve this case but he doesn't want that to happen at the risk if losing Mickie. When the climatic part of the story is reached, you see the emotion and vulnerability that Cruz is trying to hide. Sometimes even the strongest male has to cry.

With Mickie, I love her because no matter what, family is important. She spends a lot of time begging and pleading with Angel, trying to get her to see that her lifestyle is no good. She doesn't give up, even when the door is literally slammed in her face. Her persistence can be seen as her downfall but when it comes to family, it's a great quality.

We do get a nod to one of our favorite SEALS, Mozart. It seems that Cruz and Mozart have a history. Mozart’s past plays a pivotal role in Cruz’s decision to join the FBI. There is also a great setup for the next book in this series, Justice For Corrie. I think that one is going to be a favorite.

Stoker’s writing is top notch. One of the things that I like about her books is that they never drop off. You never get to the point that the story drags. Each book is consistent from page 1 to the end. It’s the same for this book. One thing I am finding with this book and series is that it is more adult than her previous books. The sex scenes are more graphic and steamy than in any other book. Is this a bad thing? NO! Bring on the steamy scenes. Mmmm….Cruz. I love me some Cruz. Where was I? Book review….right. Any who, I love the author’s writing and I feel that she captured Cruz and Mickie well.

My overall thoughts of this book are that I loved it and I don’t have a complaint about it. I highly recommend that you read this series. It is definitely one that should not be missed.

Susan Stoker has a heart as big as the state of Texas where she lives but this all American girl has also spent the last fourteen years living in Missouri, California, Colorado, and Indiana. She is quite the romantic and even met the love of her life on "Hotmail classified" before online dating and sites like match.com even existed!

Susan has been reading romance novels since middle school and once crossed out the names of the main characters in a book and changed them to her own and to the name of her crush. She's been writing scenes for years, developing her unique writing style.

Susan loves writing but her true passion is adopting dogs from rescue groups and shelters. Susan and her husband have had a total of nine "rescued" dogs since 2000 including a variety of basset hounds and bloodhounds. She has recently branched out and adopted a basset/terrier mix who acts more like a terrier than a basset (i.e. digging, eating a couch and being hyper). If you love romance and want to help her support adopting great dogs, be sure to check out her work!

Review- Protecting Melody by Susan Stoker

Title: Protecting Melody
Series: SEAL of Protection #7
Author: Susan Stoker
Publisher: Self Published
Published Date: September 8, 2015
Genre: Romance/Suspense/Military
Page Count: 185

**I received a copy of this book, from the author, in exchange for a honest review.**

Tex gave everything he had to his country and his SEAL teammates. When an IED took away part of his leg, and his career, he devoted himself to his country and friends from behind his computer. He’s always been the man that can find anyone, that uses his computer skills, legal and illegal, to keep people safe and to put the bad guys behind bars.

But behind a computer is a lonely place to be. While he might put on a good front, Tex can’t help but feel he’s missing out when he sees how happy his friends are. But when the woman he’s been talking to online for the last six months suddenly disappears without a word, Tex knows it’s time to step up, and use his skills for himself this time.

The most anticipated book in the SEAL of Protection series is Tex's book, Protecting Melody. The reason it is the most anticipated is because Tex has been through everything with everyone since book one. He is actually the hero in all the books because his behind the scenes magic is what saved lives. As a huge fan of the series, I couldn't wait for Tex to get his book. Of course Stoker had to put it towards the end.

Most are probably wondering, "Does it live up to the hype?". I'm here to say that it does. I'm not going to rewrite the synopsis aka blurb, and I'm not going to give spoilers. Sorry people, you are just going to have to suffer the suspense and read the book. I will say that there is an air of mystery that surrounds Tex. Who is this guy that is basically everyone's lifeline? Some of the mystery is ripped away and we get to know Tex a little more. This is shown through his POV of the time when he was helping Fiona through her panic attack at the mall. That was a big moment for them and it created a bond with them. Seeing his vulnerability and his fear that he couldn't help her, it added so much more dimension to his character.

Tex's love interest is Melody. If you thought Tex was a mystery, Melody is an even bigger one. She has a good reason too. I like Melody for Tex. She seems to understand Tex more than anyone. On some aspects she understands him more than his SEAL family. We know that he loves Wolfe and the gang but they don't know the emotional side of Tex that Melody gets to see.

The romance seems fast paced in this book but you have to remember that they have known each other for over 6 months. Sure they just met face to face but they have known each other longer. It's not an insta-love like in other books.

I was left in suspense towards the end. You are not quite sure who did it and when you find out you are doing a double take. Stoker sets the reader up very well for this one. The suspense also takes an emotional turn. It left me needing some Kleenex.

This book and this book series have not disappointed. I found myself eagerly awaiting each book. Sadly there is only one more book in this series. I wholeheartedly recommend that you read this series. It has everything, romance, suspense, and alpha males. ;)

~Blog Tour & Review~ Protecting Cheyenne by Susan Stoker

pcbannerxx
Blog Tour Title: Protecting Cheyenne, SEAL of Protection, Book 5
Author: Susan Stoker, USA Today Best Seller
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Military
5Cheyenne Ebook Cover
synopsis2

Living in Southern California, Cheyenne was used to seeing hot military men as she went about her daily business. An anonymous encounter at the grocery store cemented her crush on one such man. He was big, built, and incredibly easy on the eyes, but it wasn't as if he would ever really notice her. Always in control of any situation, Faulkner “Dude” Cooper knows explosives. As a bomb expert, he's lived through many high pressure situations. Disfigured by a bomb while on a mission, he's used to being looked at with pity. When he's called to a local supermarket to assist the local PD, the last thing he expects to find is a generous act of kindness performed by a beautiful, amazing woman. Enchanted by her selflessness in the face of danger and intrigued by her actions to save civilians she didn't know, Dude’s hooked. Dude was able to save Cheyenne from the group of thugs trying to take her life, but when the past comes back to haunt them both, sometimes having the knowledge and the desire isn't enough to beat the countdown of the clock.

I was up till 4am reading this book. I would have stayed up later to finish it, but unfortunately we humans require sleep to live. Upon finishing it, I realized that this was my favorite book, so far, in the series. This book had its funny parts, it sad parts, and it's "if I could reach through this book i would smack that character" moments. Cheyenne's character is one you want as your BFF. She's humble and kind, but she has a few insecurities because of her mom and sister. Dude is her perfect match. He calms her insecurities and she allows him to be himself. What had me laughing was when Cheyenne has to take pain killers. They have an effect on her. They cause her to have no filter. She says whatever is on her mind. It’s quite funny. I appreciate Stoker not diving into the BDSM lifestyle with dude. He is domineering and controlling in bed but I don’t think the labeling fits him.
This is a series that contains insta-love. I can hear some of you groaning already. This concept works well for these books. If it was written another way I don’t think it would work as well.  One of the things the fans love is that when these guys fall, they fall hard.
Stoker has a way to write military romance that most others do not. She is able to incorporate romance and the military lifestyle without them over whelming each other. She creates characters that the readers can find a piece of themselves in. That makes it all the easier to love her books.
I am addicted to this series and will be sad when it finishes soon. I can’t wait to read the next two but I don’t want the series to end yet. I dl recommend this series to anyone who loves alpha males and a good romance.

  EXCERPT:
“You’re hot. I’m assuming you know this.” Cheyenne sounded like she was imparting some deep dark secret to him. “Shy…” He didn’t disagree, but he didn’t agree either. She was extremely charming all drugged up. Dude shuddered to think about her actually driving in this condition. “Seriously, you are. I don’t know why you’re here though. Did you lose a bet or something? Are your buddies around somewhere ready to bust out and laugh?” “What?” Dude was getting pissed. Cheyenne couldn’t mean what it sounded like she meant. “Yeah, no one who looks like you has ever taken a second look at me before. I’m just me. You’re…well…you’re sex on a stick.” Dude didn’t even smile at her words. She had to be kidding him. “Hon…” “No, really. I know I’m not a troll. I’m passable, I actually think I’ve got great calves, and I like my arms…at least I did before I had the hair completely ripped off of them. Let me tell you, I don’t think duct tape is gonna become the new fashion fad anytime soon. But I’m not the kind of woman you probably are with all the time. I bet chicks throw themselves at you. When you go out to the bar I bet you always leave with someone right? Oh shit! I bet you hang out with a gang of hotties don’t you? Jesus, You leave a wake of devastation behind you wherever you go, don’t you?” Dude raised his right hand and covered Cheyenne’s mouth lightly. He didn’t know whether to be pissed at her assumptions, or to be flattered. When she stayed silent, and simply looked at him with wide eyes, he told her, “Cheyenne, first, there’s no fucking bet and I’m kinda pissed you’d even accuse me of something like that. I think you’re exquisite. Funny. Cute. Interesting. And there’s nowhere I’d rather be than right here, right now, with you. Second, yes, I have a group of friends and we hang out, but almost all of them are either married or in a serious relationship. We don’t leave a wake of anything behind us, because we only have eyes for our women.” Dude didn’t even stop to think about what he was saying, that he was suddenly including Cheyenne in his thoughts and words. “I hope like hell when you wake up in the morning and the pain pills have worn off you’ll remember this conversation and want to hang out with me and my friends. You’re like them more than you know.” Dude smiled at the look on Cheyenne’s face. She hadn’t picked her head up off the head rest, but watched him with serious eyes. “But you’re perfect…” She mumbled the words around his hand and would’ve said more, but Dude interrupted her. “I’m not even close to fucking perfect. I’m kinda a slob, I have a tendency to throw my shit on the floor until it annoys me too badly and I have to put it in the hamper. I have a temper, but I’d never raise my hand to you or any other woman. I’m controlling and like to be in charge. And…” Dude held up his left hand, reminding Cheyenne of his disfigurement. “Enough women have told me this is disgusting, or just plain gross, for me to think I’m anything but perfect.” buynow

~~Review~~ Protecting Alabama by Susan Stoker

Title: Protecting Alabama (SEAL Of Protection #2)
Author: Susan Stoker
Publisher: Self Published
Published Date: October 31, 2014
Genre: Romance/Military
Page Count: 258

**Protecting Alabama is a stand-alone love story. It’s Book 2 in the SEAL of Protection Series.**

Alabama didn’t have a good start to life. Emotionally and physically abused by her mama, Alabama spent her high school years in foster care. People let her down, time after time, and she’d learned to rely on only herself.

Christopher “Abe” Powers earned his nickname because he tolerated nothing less than absolute honesty from the people around him. Finding the bar scene stale and having watched his friend and teammate, Wolf, find the woman of his dreams, Abe was determined to find someone to share his life with too.

Alabama and Abe had no idea their paths would cross and their prayers would be answered, but like most things in life, nothing is ever as easy as it seems at first. Two words would change both their lives and they’d have to fight hard for their happy ever after.

Protecting Alabama is by far my favorite book from Susan Stoker. We follow Alabama from her tortured childhood at the hands of her mother. The way she was treated as a child will leave you cringing. We finally meet her as an adult. She has struggled hard to rise above her past and become an independent woman. Kudos to her. Alabama as a character is skittish and a loner. She seems to prefer her life that away because she is fearful of being her again. At the same time she has grown as a person who can stand up for herself and is willing to put herself in harm’s way to help others. This is where she meets Abe.
Abe is a character that expects honesty from everyone. He values it. Hints his nickname Abe for Honest Abe. Abe is great for Alabama. He is protective of her and shows her that she is truly worthy of love and affection. He brings out a side of her that she never knew existed. I loved Abe’s character until his “honesty above all else” mentality got in the way. He sees things only one way and refuses to understand that he could be wrong. Poor Abe, didn’t realize that men are not right all the time. =)
Stoker pours the emotion into this book. You can feel what Alabama is feeling. It jumps off the page. You feel very empathetic for her character. Not many books make you feel the characters pain, heartbreak and happiness. This one is definitely one of the good ones. There is a letter that Alabama’s character writes that will have you balling like a baby.
If you are looking for an emotional romance, pick this book up. You will not be disappointed.
